A Bright New Breakfast Nook
More room, more opportunities! After relocating her studio to a new
space, Tieghan Gerard of Half Baked Harvest shows us how she revamped
what was a crowded creative corner into a cozy kitchen nook.
I am so excited to share my revamped breakfast nook. When I moved into
my house a few years ago, I filled this nook area with all of my
photography props, surfaces, and equipment. The nook is right next to
my kitchen, but because I work from home it made more sense to have
everything I use for photographing food stored in this little corner
of my house.
However, we recently moved the Half Baked Harvest “office” to a brand
new studio space, leaving my previously cluttered corner off of my
kitchen very empty. I’ve always wanted a cute and cozy breakfast nook,
so as soon as everything was moved to the new studio, I created this
fun space that’s perfect for a morning cup of coffee and afternoon
reading.
I knew I wanted the space to feel cozy, bright, and mood boosting, so
the first thing I did was add a warm rug to cover
the very cold concrete floors. I know that a rug in the kitchen is not
traditional. But this nook is to the side of my cooking area, and
because my floors are not only cold, but a very odd blue, I really
wanted a cozier space. This rug is perfect, not only for warming up
the space, but for brightening it as well.
No breakfast nook is complete without a cute
round table to sit and drink your
morning coffee (or tea) at. I’m in love with this little French
bistro table. It perfectly seats three or even four, and its white
marble top is a great backdrop for a Sunday morning Instagram brunch
photo.
To round out the space, I added in a couple of side tables to sit
underneath my large windows, and a few of my favorite vases to fill
with flowers.
Whenever possible, I love filling a room with fresh flowers. They
add so much energy to a room and look gorgeous in these handcrafted
vases.
Hoping this post has inspired you to create your own breakfast nook!
I am now ready for Sunday brunch, followed by a good read in the
afternoon sun while snuggled up with a cozy blanket
