4 tips for creating a travel-inspired kid’s room
Your family vacay plans might be on pause, but that doesn’t mean wanderlust is slowing down. In fact, if you and your tiny traveler have been dreaming of far-off destinations, we can totally relate. Luckily, with a little creativity, introducing kids to global cultures, wildlife and landscapes right at home can be easier (and waaay more fun) than you think.
Read on for our favorite ways to bring adventurous vibes into kids’ rooms, and get some inspo from our new Born Wander collection featuring travel-inspired textiles and finishing touches.
1) Pick their dream destination
Fun fact: a bedroom is so much more than a place for kids to sleep. We like to think of it as an environment that can inspire daydreams of all those future adventures. One shortcut to creating a home getaway full of travel inspo? Zeroing in on that special locale—whether it’s their favorite vacation spot or a city they’ve always wanted to visit—and decorating the room with that destination in mind.

A modern nautical nursery that nods to coastal France.
2) Choose your (color) adventure
Ocean voyage, tropical excursion or epic camping trip? Whatever landscape speaks to them, a nature-inspired color story can turn their space into an outdoorsy retreat. Because when color and imagination come together in kids’ rooms, the result is pure magic.
Mix vibrant floral pops to boost the tropical feels.
Play with dreamy pastels to get those summery sunset vibes.
Blend blue tones and crisp whites to create a cool coastal mood.
3) Add pops of wild personality
An easy way to give their room a more adventurous POV: using your wild child’s favorite animal as a motif that appears throughout the space. This can be as simple as adding in a stuffie, bedding pattern and decor piece featuring that jungle animal or sea creature they’re currently obsessing over. (We can’t lie, llamas will always be our number one.)
While younger kids may want to feel like they’re on an indoor safari, trend-forward tweens will appreciate a more elevated approach: think colorful wildlife wall art or animal-print textiles.
4) Encourage their curiosity with travel books
Whether they’re all about trying new foods or memorizing maps, a (fun) educational read on their favorite subject is the perfect way to keep a curious mind engaged at home. Kid-friendly storytelling and vibrant illustrations are perfect for sharing a new culture or language with little learners—in the coziness of their own room.
