Sweet Buy! We recently used this to make guacamole, really beautiful look to it. The only issue I have with it is the bottom has a felt like fabric to it, which makes cleaning it a bit more interesting. May 3, 2012

Solid and beautiful I'd shopped for other mortar/pestles and decided on this one because of its size and heft. I've used it to crush spices and mash basil and it works quickly and effectively. The marble, which goes well with my green/gray countertops, is a plus. Both pieces clean up easily. September 11, 2011

Works Great Was curious to see if pesto would come out better in the 'traditional way' (I've been using a food processor) and although I got a workout for my arm, I can say that homemade pesto made in the mortar & pestle tastes divine. The handles on the side make for an easy grip and the bowl can accommodate an ample amount of herbs. Can't wait to try it with spices! August 23, 2011

Heavy Duty This is very Heavy and I'm sure is great for crushing, but I didn't like the color of it, (too gray) And since it was a gift, thought that it was just a little heavy for the recipient. Exchanged for the wood one, made in Germany! I'm not big on counter clutter, this is not something I would want to lift in and out of my cabinets. But that said, I bet it does a great job! heavy duty I dont find enough uses for this item, but it's served its purpose well when I have used it. It's heavy duty, so it doesnt require that much effort to crush the spices. May 28, 2009

Not just for decoration... I bought this initially because I felt it would look nice on display in my kitchen. I have found it to be a necessity. I particularly find it a great asset in crushing almonds for topping yogurt on a daily basis, it does the job with out the nuts flying all over the place. May 27, 2009

salad dressing, pestos and so much more i use my mortar & pestle to make salad dressing almost every night. i actually stopped buying bottle dressing because of it. it's really easy for making fresh cesar dressing. and, i will never make pesto with a food processor again. you just can't beat the texture and even taste of pesto from a mortar and pestle. i'm just a homecook, but i think when you grind, say, fresh rosemary, you actually release the natural oil that i'm not sure you get from chopping with a food processor... Heavy Duty Mortar! I received this as one of my wedding gifts I registered for, as my husband loves marble and loved the color, etc.. It is very heavy duty! We used it recently to open up and grind a fresh coconut with. It really did the job and if your looking for a mortar I would suggest this one as it's super heavy duty and will not slip out of your hands or break! It's also very appealing to the eye so it sits out :) May 27, 2009

The perfect guacamole tool! I registered for this when I got married, trying to find a few items in the $30-$50 price range... and I actually received it. My first inclination was to return it but found it was the perfect tool to make guac! Nice quality, good price. Yummy results. May 27, 2009
