Rated 5 out of 5 by Cary from Have a good friend handy...These book shelves are a good quality material and came with all the required parts. The directions are not totally easy to follow; the pictures leave room for ambiguity. I would number or letter mark the sides, top, and bottom shelves. It is not that clear until you finish one (I did two) what goes where. Thank goodness my friend Lynne is more clever than I. Once they are together they look great!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice looking, but odd featuresWe bought two of these bookcases and though they do look nice ... I have never seen a bookcase that did not have the option to adjust ALL of the shelves to ANY height. These bookcases have notches for raising and lowering two shelves a bit in either direction, but there is a fixed shelf in the middle and if you don't choose the middle option for the adjustable shelves, you end up with a huge gap between two or more of the shelves. Really, these bookcases are tall enough that they could use an additional, adjustable shelf. There's a lot of wasted space and it seems like C&B just cheaped out a bit. We bought a similar bookcase from C&B about five years ago, and a) it is FULLY adjustable, b) has the extra shelf and c) we did not have to put it together ourselves. The price is unchanged. Go figure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Michael123456 from Poor qualityFor the money I expected something of considerably higher quality than I received. There were several things wrong:* There were a number of defects in the wood and finish.* The threaded inserts were sunk deeply enough that the screws didn't reach them. I used an Allen wrench to bring the inserts back closer to the surface and this fixed the problem.* One set of holes was not drilled to allow for countersinking the screws. This meant that the screws didn't reach the inserts. I had to drill the larger hole for the countersinking myself.* There were little gaps between the various pieces after assembly. The long and the short of it is that I expected a lot more from Crate and Barrel, especially for the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Espoire from Bookcase BonanzaI purchased two 33" and one 20" Peyton bookcase and all arrived. The 33" bookcase was different in color and had different feet than the 20" bookcase which make it difficult to line them up once constructed. The construct is similar to any make-it-yourself product although I felt a little expensive for the product in general. Also, the back does not align with where you need to screw it in which resulted in a couple of misses and split wood. Be careful of this if you purchase this product. My biggest complaint is the massive packaging you need to dispose of afterward! Very non-eco friendly. Tons of styrofoam and other "stuff" that is not recyclable. Very disappointing, not to mention that I live in a flat so I had to take it all to a larger dumpster nearby.Overall on a scale from 1-10 I'd rate the bookshelves about an 8 and the packaging a 5 (some is necessary to protect the product). The construction was very easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tora from Perfect FitI needed a bookcase that could only be 20 inches wide and I not only found it but this one is perfect! It was delivered in a box and I needed to assemble a few things; very easy by the way. I stood it up in the area where I only had 20 inches and it was a perfect fit. Not only that it looks fantastic. I just wiped it off per instructions and assembled my favorite chef's cookbooks on each shelf. It looks spectacular...oh and I should mention the finish is rich and compliments my other furniture perfectly. I could not be happier; thank you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by SeattleBuckeyes from Perfect for what we neededWe love our wall of bookshelves. We bought one large and two smaller bookcases to line one wall. We have only 2 minor complaints...too much styrofoam and cardboard to get rid off with all three. And the predrilled holes for the assembly didn't line up well. However, now that the packaging is gone and they are assembled, we love them. They are gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gloria in CA from Sturdy, beautiful bookcaseVery nice, sturdy bookcase. Easy to assemble, although a nice add would have been to label the left and right panels since we got them reversed and had to start over, but it probably wouldn't have happened if we paid closer attention. Tobacco color is beautiful, and finish is very nice. Well-packaged and delivered in flawless condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HarryMom from Great bookshelvesOrdered through Crate&Barrel.com as no store near home. Arrived with one damaged piece. Contacted C&B where a very suitable arrangement for exchange at C&B store near office was set up. Now assembled which was not difficult. Looks just as expected and fits perfectly where planned.Instructions could have been better in terms of illustrations that were unclear or actually wrong. But it went together in spite of that.
