The Story

This amazing razor-sharp knife is created in Seki City, Japan's 700-year-old center for samurai swords. The "ripple" Damascus rust-free finish is achieved by forging 16 layers of steel on each side. Flexible, stick-resistant blade is stamped, hand-ground to an exceptional 16-degree angle, then hand-polished.

Shun ® Classic 8 Chefs Knife is rated 4.7143 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak blade The knife's edge keeps getting chipped on my wooden cutting board. I am very upset as I thought this was a good knife. I've only had it for about two months too. I don't recommend this knife and won't be buying Shun again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly a Legendary Blade This knife cuts through just about any food you want to put in it's path. The knife is sturdy, cuts very straight and even, and the handle just has a great feel to it. It does not dull quickly, but honing the blade brings the edge back to form quite easily. I have had these knife for about 2 years, and use them 2-3 times a week, and have yet to need a wet stone sharpening.A great investment for a serious amateur chef’s kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best knife My husband wanted to get the Shun knifes last year for Christmas. Since then we have been slowly building our collection. This knife gets used every day in our house and for two home cooks - it's an excellent knife that is easy to use and comfortable to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and functional We received this as a wedding gift five years ago and it continues to be an amazing knife despite being used daily, and being a bit abused. It is also just beautiful to look at. We look forward to growing our Shun collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love I don't know a ton about kitchen knives but my fiance swears by these and we use ours often. It has a comfortable grip and cuts clean. We use our Shun knives for just about everything in the kitchen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and sharp I've had this knife for about year, so it's gotten quite a bit of use. I have to say that I love this knife a lot.The D shaped handle is very comfortable and despite being wood, is not slippery at all (even when my hands are covered in chicken gunk). I also find that I have a lot of control with the knife. The blade angle is a western/eastern hybrid, so you get the best of sharpness and edge retention. In practice, I actually find the knife to hold a decent edge as long as you hone it every once and a while. This knife holds an edge better than the Victorinox and Henckels I've used. The only downside to this knife is the price. It's expensive and you could probably find a comparable knife for less. However, if you take care of this knife, it should last you a long long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Sharp Knife This is my go-to knife. It is extremely sharp, comfortable to hold, and easy to clean. The handle fits perfectly in my hand. I recommend Shun very highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Knife This knife is the best knife. Upon opening the box, it was sharp and was able to cut through everything from a piece a paper to clean cut tomatoes. It is well worth the price and would recommend it to anyone who wants a really sharp knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous knife! My husband purchased this knife, and it is by far the best one in our set. We have been so impressed by the quality and durability of this knife, as well as how easily and well it cuts, that we would recommend them highly! And we have been proud to give them as gifts!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this knife! We got this knife as a wedding gift and couldn't be happier. In total we have 3 shun knives of different sizes, and whenever we're looking for a quality knife we look to shun. It has a great blade and is very solid. I absolutely recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best knives We have at least six Shun knives and love them all. They're perfectly balanced and razor-sharp. I can't imagine going back to any other knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Chef's Knife I have the 10" chef's knife. While it's a bit big for small hands, it does a great job of delicate slicing. I use my 8" Wusthof more often, but break out this Shun for specific things like slicing meat/fish or for chopping big onions (where I can comfortably get a higher angle).
