Let’s Play! 6 Fun Ideas for Kids Indoor Activities

Because kid energy is no joke and lots of us are going to have little ones at home this summer, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite activities for kids at home.

From playtime favorites to indoor gametime, here’s to keeping the good times rolling, and rolling, and rolling...because kid energy is. no. joke.

1. They like to move it, move it! And that’s why we love rockers and ride-on toys for indoor playtime. Kids get to rev their engines (pun intended) and fuel their imaginations at the same time. Who knew a ride-on unicorn could be such an indoor activity win-win.

2. From bean bags to bowling to hopscotch, classic games are classics for a reason—they’re so fun! We like that kids can play these games with parents, siblings, or even compete with themselves by trying to top their best score. We also love that these kids indoor games can easily become fun backyard activities during warmer seasons.

3. Bring the outdoors in. Real-life camping and gardening are fun but they tend to come with a lot of grownup rules. Indoor camping and gardening, however, are sheer magic because kids can toast their own (pretend) marshmallows and go on bear hunts and stay up until very late (aka when an adult turns out the lights) and have a major adventure, right in their own home. And young gardeners can spend hours creating the garden of their dreams without having to deal with a single weed or garden pest—that’s some serious gardening ROI.

4. Let’s build. Skyscrapers, pirate ships, castles...the sky’s the limit when it comes to fun indoor activities with building blocks. The best part? All they need is their own imagination and a blank space to create.

5. Playground faves, but make them indoors. Simple indoor games, like hide-and-seek, jump rope, or even a chair swing—are fun ways to bring home playground favorites.

6. Imaginary play, it’s serious business. From pretend DIY projects to 5-course meals and “typing” top-secret information, toys designed around the world of imaginary play allow for endless exploration and creative ways to have fun at home.
