Fan of Red velvet cupcakes. This mix is so wonderful I'll never buy another commercially made cupcake. Certainly is mix of choice for homemade cupcakes

Tasteless Waste of Money
I was terribly disappointed in the cupcake batter, and I have to agree with many of the other reviews. Grocery store cake batter that is a fraction of the price tastes superior and is much more moist. The extra ingredients required (a block of cream cheese and over two sticks of butter and several eggs, etc.) really make the cost per cupcake crazy. And, I they sayt the batter makes 10 cupcakes, suggesting that you grease the top of your muffin pan so the cupcakes release more easily. Never have I baked a cupcake where the directions tell you to fill the cup all the way. The cupcakes baked so high over the top and (despite the grease), they stuck to the pan and broke apart when I was removing them. What a HUGE disappointment. I should have spread the batter between 24 muffin cups, as is normal. The cupcake they picture on the cover of the box is clearly not baked according to their own directions b/c it is much smaller/more normal in size. Don't waste your money on this.

Uh-Uh
I love Ina Garten and have never been disappointed by any of her products or recipes. After trying her outrageous brownies a few months ago and was impressed, I decided to try red velvet cupcakes next. There are so many things that make this cupcake a no-no. First, the cake lacked flavor and also was quite dry. Second, the cream cheese frosting recipe calls for more cream cheese than most recipes I've tried. The frosting was ok, but a bit too tangy. Third, after you consider all the products you have to buy, I think I could have bought 7 cupcakes from my favorite cupcakery and I would have been happier. 7 great cupcakes is far better than 10 kind-of ok cupcakes, right?

Excellent
Very simple to make. They turned out perfect. The cupcakes and icing (put just enough to cover the top but didn't over do it) were tasty!

Delicious, but not worth the money.
You have to add butter, eggs, cream cheese. It really is not worth the money, but they were tasty.

Yummy Cupcakes!
I always wanted to bake red velvet cupcakes but didn't want to waste my time making them from scratch if i ended up hating them. Making the cupcakes was so easy and they tasted delicious! My only complaint was that the batter expanded so much I actually had to trim around the top of the cupcakes! I brought them over to my boyfriend's house and his family devoured them! They even asked for my recipe =)

tasteless, yucky aftertaste; loose texture
Raw batter—tasteless (self-affirmed & by my resident "bowl licker"). Used butter, not margerine, per recipe. Baked cupcakes fell apart & failed to retain shape in the pans. Frosting was gooey & too sweet. Note: This product came to my home as a hostess gift from a friend. I love to bake & only do so from scratch. Having only known of the Barefoot Contessa from House Beautiful magazine, my expectations of a product with her name on it were high.

Not Worth the Money
I can't believe this mix was so mediocre. I could have bought a traditional supermarket variety and had a better result. I bake all the time and should have just made these from scratch based on some online recipe. Trust me when I say I followed the recipe exactly and ended up two dozen dry and flavorless cupcakes that I ended up throwing away. If I could return my empty boxes to C&B I would because this was a complete waste of money. I would write a review directly to Barefoot Contessa but their website isn’t set up for feedback.

agent provocateur.
that's what this mix is. it induces me to lie about my true baking skills. i casually tell my friends who ooo and ahhh at every bite of the heavenly concoction that i made the cupcakes from scratch. i think barefoot contessa will be okay with that.
i'm a red velvet fanatic and have tried just about every cupcakery in LA area. i think mine turn out better than even sprinkles, sweet lady jane or aunty em's. very moist not overly sweet.
it's really really easy to make. no need to go buy bunch of separate ingredients to make the frosting either. unlike some other mixes i've tried, the frosting comes out buttery creamy, not gritty (sugar gritty), a deal maker/breaker for any cupcake.
ENJOY!

Excellent Cupcakes
these are relatively easy to bake and absolutely delicious. although i did not see an estimated yield on the box, both times i've used them they made one dozen large size cupcakes, with icing to spare. a great buy for a cheap, sweet treat!

Weird Frosting, Good Taste
NOW... I am not saying I am a Betty Crocker or anything... but this was a bit hard for me. The actually cupcake was fine and easy, but the icing was a doozy. It ended up tasting like raw eggs, so I went out and bought regular vanilla icing. The final product was very tasty and I would reccoment this product, have back up icing incase you have the same trouble I had.
